My Supplement Stack – Part 2

Welcome to part two…let’s get to it, shall we! These are my mid-/post-workout supps!

Annnnd we’re off!

Mid/Post Intense Workout/Run

Current: Cellucor Alpha Aminos (fruit punch flavor)

This is my all time favorite go-to after a nice and sweaty run or workout! One scoop of my aminos, some water, and ice later, I am a happy lady. Amino acids alone are meant to help replenish and rebuild muscles; they are the building blocks of protein, if you will. Cellucor’s Alpha Aminos are a great way to hydrate and replenish the body of electrolytes needed to keep it functioning at its highest efforts. The Alpha Amino sports blend can be taken during your workout, as a source of hydration, or after. I, in particular, like to gulp down the fruit punch flavor post-run/workout. During workouts, I only really sip on water, if anything (depending on the intensity of course). But man, oh man, I cant even properly describe how tasty and refreshing a big ol’ cup of this is with my post-run fuel. I always look forward to taking my aminos.

Post-Run/Workout or Meal Replacement

Current: Cellucor Cor-Performance Whey // Past: Gold Standard Optimum Nutrition Whey // Super Past: FitMiss Delight

When it comes to protein powders, I’m not usually easily pleased. I can’t choke down some chalky, nasty flavored drink, no matter how important it is to my body to adequately get my protein. I’d rather eat dirt than drink a gross-ass protein shake. Ok, that’s only half true. I’d probably give dirt a fair chance, and see if it was comparable to a gross-ass protein shake, then decide from there. That being said, these are my opinions of the taste of the three brands I’ve sampled…and yeah, as the saying goes, “opinions are like assholes; everyone’s got one” – aka, while I may not be in favor of one, you may love it! Bear that in mind.

I’m just going to say right off the bat, I don’t like fake chocolate taste. There, I said it. This was my first go at trying protein powder, and I won’t lie; it almost turned me off of it completely. I don’t think it blended well in just a shaker cup – possibly a blender would’ve gotten the job done better, but sometimes, ain’t nobody got time for that. The flavoring I found pretty gross-tastic, but then again, that was before I really came to understand that I DON’T LIKE FAKE CHOCOLATE TASTE. Had I know that I have such a strong disliking of it, I would’ve probably gone for the Strawberries n’ Cream flavor. I would definitely give that a chance, since, as a whole, the product seemed meet my needs; low carb,semi-high protein content, kept me full. Just not a fake chocolate fan, I repeat. (When I got low on the tub, I gave the rest to my good friend, Andi, to try and she loves it! Diff’rent stroke, for diff’rent folks!)

Past: Gold Standard Optimum Nutrition Whey – Vanilla Icecream

This one I decided to try off of a recommend from my dad. He said it mixed well, was creamy, and that the flavor (vanilla icecream, specifically) was good. IMO…he was half-right. Again, I don’t find that it shook well in a shake-bottle. In a blender, it was creamy as all hell, though! Alone, it wasn’t a favorite flavor, but it wasn’t too bad…until I got like halfway through the tub, then I just couldn’t take it anymore. I got burned out on it FAST. It wasn’t great, so I began to dread drinking it, unless I have blended it with a banana and/or some frozen berries, or something. With additions, like I mentioned, it’s definitely a winner.

My favorite thing about this protein powder, though, is how great it is for baking! Funny thing to say, you may think? Wrong. I made some no-bake Protein Bars using this powder, oats, peanut butter, chia seeds, and honey, and they were AMAZING….in fact, I need to make those again…yum (Recipe from one of my favorite blogs, HERE ). Also, I developed my own little concoction of Vanilla Protein Banana Bread…with or without chocolate. This too turned out pretty dang scrumptious. I would continue to buy this protein for means of baked/no-bake goods, but probably not for a simple shake.

Current: Cellucor Cor-Performance Whey – Cookies n Crème, Peanutbutter Marshmallow, Chocolate Raspberry Truffle

Gosh, where to even begin. This is best GD whey protein I’ve ever tried in my life. There. I said it.

Starting with my fave, the Peanutbutter Marshmallow (PBM) – de-friggin-lish. I’m a peanut butter addict, admittedly, so you give me this flavor option and I just have to give it a try. I ordered two sample packs off of Cellucor’s website for the PBM and Cookies n Crème which came in 4-serving pouches. PERFECT to give different flavors a try; I highly recommend taking advantage of their sample packs (I’m ordering more soon to try new flavors!). The PBM blew me away right off the bat. It shook and blended well; didn’t leave any floating powder chunks with just a shake bottle. My fave way to drink this, however, is blended with half of a banana and a cup of almond/coconut milk. Definitely my go-to snack post-workout, or if I just need something to hit the spot. #1 in my book.

My second favorite is the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle (CRT). Yes, I know, I know…fake chocolate. But guys. It’s so good that I don’t even care. I’ve made this into bars and popsicles, as well as a simple shake, and it is delish. Fave way to blend this is with a handful of fresh or frozen berries, some water, and ice. This one is great to me when I feel like I need/want a fruitier snack post-workout, which is surprising because it’s also chocolatey. I dunno, but it satiates me fruit-needs better than my sweets-needs.

Third, but certainly not gross, is the Cookies n Crème (CnC). This bad boy is pretty tasty too, but I didn’t find that it shook as well for me. I think it was due to the little cookie sprinkle bits; they confused my mouth when I sipped on the shake. But it is by far my favorite flavor to bake/no-bake with. My “homemade quest bars” using this protein are my favorite ones.

I plan to order some samples in the Cinnamon Swirl, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Strawberry Milkshake soon too, but until then, this is my rank of the Cellucor flavors.

Edit: There’s also apparently an elusive Cor-Fetti (aka CAKE BATTER, people!) flavor, that I’ve yet to come across. I know the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle is exclusively sold at GNC, but I haven’t seen any info on the Cor-Fetti…might’ve been a “special/limited edition” flavor, but man…when I find that one… they might as well hook up a tube from the tub to my mouth, stat.
